Press-on Nails FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes NexaNails special?
NexaNails stands for high-quality press-on nails that feel light, look beautiful, and seamlessly integrate into everyday life.
From the beginning, it was important to us that press-ons do not appear artificial, harsh, or cheap, but rather well-groomed, modern, and high-quality. That's why we pay attention not only to the quality of the nails themselves but also to designs and finishes that look stylish and are comfortable to wear—from calm and classic to special, glossy, or more striking for moments when you want to wear something different.
Our collections are regularly expanding so that you can always discover new looks and change them as often as suits your style, your occasion, or simply your mood.
When it comes to quality, we're not just focused on appearance but on the overall feel: the nails should look beautiful, stay securely in place during everyday wear, and remain uncomplicated. That's precisely why a system that is easy to apply and gently remove is also part of our philosophy.
NexaNails should not feel like extra effort but rather like a beautiful, flexible way to feel well-groomed—in a way that fits your own life.
Who are NexaNails suitable for?
For everyone who loves beautiful nails – but not necessarily all the effort that goes with them.
You don't have to be a professional or particularly skilled. NexaNails are designed so that even beginners can apply them quickly and easily with a little practice. That's exactly what makes press-on nails so practical: beautiful, well-groomed nails without complicated application.
NexaNails are a particularly good fit for you if you:
- don't want to use a UV lamp
- want to protect your natural nails
- want to avoid acetone or certain removers as much as possible
- have little time in everyday life but still want to look well-groomed
- don't like painting your own nails
- don't feel like waiting forever for nail polish to dry
- want a more durable alternative to classic nail polish
They are also ideal if you cannot wear painted nails for work, but still want beautiful nails for private occasions or special events.
NexaNails are also a flexible solution for anyone who doesn't want to wear artificial nails permanently, but only occasionally – for example, for dates, parties, celebrations, or special moments.
For many, NexaNails are therefore almost like a changeable accessory – similar to jewelry that you can change as often as you like to match your outfit, occasion, or mood.
They also make a great gift for friends or family members who like beautiful nails but want a simple and flexible solution.
— Application & Removal —
How do I apply NexaNails press-on nails correctly?
- Trim natural nails and file them into shape.
- Gently push back the cuticles and carefully remove them if necessary.
- Then lightly roughen the nail surface and thoroughly degrease it with the cleaning cloth.
- Select the appropriate adhesive pad size, stick it onto the natural nail and press firmly so that no air bubbles form.
- Then remove the protective film from the adhesive pad.
- Place the press-on nail at a 45° angle at the base of the nail, push it towards the nail bed and press firmly for about 10 seconds.
How do I gently remove the nails (attached with the supplied adhesive pads)?
Soak your nails in a warm water bath with a little oil—essential oil, olive oil, or massage oil—for about 10 minutes. Then gently lift the nails from the sides with the stick.
Adhesive residue on the natural nail can be easily rolled off with your fingers. If there is adhesive on the inside of the press-on nails, gently lift it with the stick, roll it up, and then completely remove it from the stick with your fingers.
Can I use liquid glue instead of the included adhesive pads?
Yes, that's basically possible. Liquid glue is available at almost any drugstore. A thin layer is applied to the natural nail and a sufficient layer to the inside of the press-on to prevent any gaps from forming.
However, we don't recommend this method. Liquid glue is difficult to remove and usually requires special removers. The intensive removal process can scratch or damage the press-ons, making them impossible to reuse. It also eliminates the ability to quickly and flexibly change nails.
Why doesn't NexaNails recommend liquid glue?
We generally recommend applying NexaNails with the included adhesive tabs.
Liquid glue is often more difficult to use because it's not always easy to apply the right amount. Too much glue can seep out at the sides and get on your skin or nail surface. Too little glue can cause the press-on not to hold reliably.
Furthermore, dried glue residue often remains on the back of the press-on. This makes re-use more difficult, less hygienic, and the result often less clean.
With our pre-made adhesive tabs, application is significantly easier, cleaner, and more even – without glue residue on your hands or nails.
That's why we always recommend applying NexaNails with the included adhesive tabs.
Can I check the size without having the nails count as used?
Yes – that's exactly why we deliberately chose our packaging so that you can examine and carefully assess the shape, color, and size as well as possible before application.
Please proceed carefully when trying them on and do not unnecessarily detach the nails from the holder. Once individual nails have been detached, used, or brought into contact with a nail or skin, a return is generally no longer possible for hygienic reasons.
Especially with press-on nails – and particularly with toenails – hygiene plays an important role. Therefore, we recommend checking the size as carefully as possible BEFORE APPLICATION directly in the packaging and only detaching the nails from the holder if you really intend to wear them.
How do I know which side of the nail is the tip and which is the nail bed?
The side where you break the nail off the bar is the tip. This will create a small, slightly rougher area. You can easily smooth this out with a nail file at the end.
What's included in the set? Do I need any additional accessories for application?
- Standard fingernail sets: 30 or 40 nails (depending on size), 48 adhesive pads in 2 sizes, 2 cleaning wipes, 1 stick, 1 mini file.
- Toenail sets : 24 nails or 42 nails (depending on the size) and 24 adhesive pads, otherwise identical accessories (2 cleaning wipes, 1 stick, 1 mini file).
- Handmade unique pieces : 10 nails per set. Since these are individually handcrafted with great effort, precise measurements are required before ordering. The accessories are identical to the standard set.
Your set already includes everything you need. Simply unpack , get started , and enjoy perfectly fitting nails.
And the best part : Thanks to the complete range of accessories, you can style your nails on the go – whether on a plane, on a train or in a hotel.
What should I do if I previously wore gel or acrylic enhancements for a long time and more adhesive residue remains after removing the press-ons?
If natural nails have been stressed by prolonged enhancements (e.g., gel or acrylic), more adhesive residue may remain when removing press-ons. In this case, soak the nails in warm water with oil for a little longer, then carefully lift the press-ons piece by piece. As soon as a small gap forms, you can add a little more oil underneath to help the adhesive residue dissolve faster. Repeat the process several times if necessary: soak briefly, then carefully continue to lift. Finally, gently remove any remaining adhesive residue with a nano-glass nail file. After removal, you can further support your nails with nail-strengthening care products.
Can I wear NexaNails on gel, acrylic, or shellac nails?
No, we recommend NexaNails only for natural nails.
Gel, acrylic, or shellac nails that have already been built up are usually thicker and smoother than a natural nail. This can create a visible edge at the nail bed if press-on nails are additionally applied. In everyday life, the nails can then more easily catch on hair or fabrics.
Furthermore, adhesive pads usually do not adhere optimally to such surfaces because they are very smooth and cannot be prepared like a natural nail. Visually, the result often looks less natural, as the additional buildup quickly creates a look that is too thick or uneven.
For the most beautiful, natural result and reliable hold, we therefore recommend NexaNails only on clean, dry natural nails.
How often should I change or renew my NexaNails press-ons?
Our adhesive pads can last longer than 1-2 weeks, depending on your wearing habits.
- However, for better hygiene, we recommend removing the nails every 7-10 days, cleaning them with alcohol, and then reapplying them.
- If your nails grow quickly and a visible gap forms between the nail bed and the press-on, you can renew the nails at this point - this way they will sit comfortably and look perfect again.
How can I measure my nail size when I'm on the go or don't have a tape measure?
No problem—you don't necessarily need a tape measure. Just take a small piece of paper or a Post-it note, wrap it around your thumbnail, and mark the widest point. Then you can remove the paper and measure the mark with a free ruler app.
Are NexaNails suitable for travel or on-the-go use?
Yes, very well in fact.
Our sets already contain everything you need for application. This means you can apply your NexaNails practically anywhere – whether at home, in a hotel, on the go, or while traveling.
This is precisely why they are ideal for:
- Vacations
- Weekend trips
- Spontaneous invitations
- Events on the go
- Quick beauty updates in between
Later, we also plan to offer compact travel and storage solutions where nails and tools can be conveniently stored together. This will make taking them with you even easier.
— Durability & Care —
How long do NexaNails press-on nails last?
With our high-quality adhesive pads, nails last an average of at least 7 days – often even up to 2-3 weeks, depending on preparation and wear (e.g., water contact, heavy wear, oils or creams).
We've tested many adhesive pads and selected one of the best to ensure that the press-ons stay in place and only come off when you want them to.
The durability also depends on the correct application:
- Prepare natural nails thoroughly by lightly abrading them, degreasing them, and pushing back the cuticles. For optimal adhesion, the nails should be free of any grease and sweat residue. After abrading, it's best to clean the nail surface with alcohol. Acetone is also possible, but is not recommended, as it can be very harsh on the skin.
- Contact with water should be avoided for the first three hours after application. Tip: Is this really necessary? No problem, just blow-dry your nails briefly to reactivate the adhesive.
- Also, make sure you choose the right size adhesive pads and press-ons. If the press-ons are too small, a gap will form between the natural nail and the press-on, allowing water and air to penetrate, significantly reducing the durability.
Which tips help press-on nails last longer?
For longer wear, make sure your natural nails are clean, dry, and free from oil before application. Press the adhesive tabs down carefully and avoid long contact with water, oil, or cream right after applying. After bathing or swimming, briefly blow-drying the nails can help reactivate the adhesive strength.
Can I reuse NexaNails press-on nails?
For adhesive pads: Yes, provided the adhesive residue is removed gently and the inside of the press-on remains grease-free. Our
Tip : Clean the inside thoroughly with alcohol after each use to optimally prepare the nails for the next application.
Depending on the design and manufacturing method, slight signs of wear may appear after prolonged use. How long a set remains reusable also depends on usage, care, and activity level—whether a set is worn again is therefore a personal decision: many customers reuse their nails multiple times, while others change them sooner for a fresh look.
Liquid adhesives are usually only suitable for one use.
How strong are the NexaNails adhesive pads really?
While durability always depends on preparation and stress, our adhesive pads are among the most reliable on the market. They hold securely in everyday life, during sports, or even on vacation, yet can still be removed gently: without acetone and without special removers – simply soak and peel off with water and oil
Tip: After a long bath or swim, briefly blow-dry your nails – this reactivates the adhesive strength.
Do NexaNails Press-ons stay on when you're in the water, exercising, in the sauna, or on vacation?
Yes! Our adhesive pads have been extensively tested and offer reliable hold even with water, sports, sauna or on vacation – even under extreme conditions. Whether swimming in the pool, saltwater at the sea, fitness or sauna: our customers have tried them and were thrilled.
Of course, durability can always depend on individual use and proper preparation, but you can rest assured: our adhesive pads have been selected to combine secure hold with the gentlest possible removal.
Tip:
The adhesive pads generally offer reliable hold even on the beach. After contact with fine sand, we still recommend briefly checking whether small grains of sand have become lodged under individual nails. This can reduce adhesion in individual cases. If necessary, the affected nail can be reattached very easily.
Can I cook or do housework normally with Press-ons?
Many NexaNails are suitable for everyday wear and reliably hold up even when cooking or doing normal household chores.
However, for particularly delicate finishes – such as chrome, mirror, metallic, or velvet designs – we recommend a little more caution in everyday life. For housework, cleaning, vigorous scrubbing, or working with cleaning agents, you should wear gloves if possible. This not only protects your press-ons but also your natural nails and skin.
Are chrome or mirrored designs as durable as other press-on nails?
Not quite.
Designs with particularly intense chrome, mirror, or metallic effects often look especially impressive, but their surfaces are slightly more delicate than other finishes. This is due to the manufacturing process: with this technique, an additional seal, like with some other surfaces, is not possible.
As a result, such designs are particularly well suited for shorter wear times and special occasions, for example:
- Dates
- Parties
- Events
- Special moments
They are less ideal for activities such as housework, cleaning, car washing, or other highly demanding everyday tasks. If you wear them a bit more gently, the effect usually stays beautiful longer, and fine scratches occur significantly less often.
Important to know:
This is not a defect but a normal characteristic of this special aesthetic. It is precisely the intense effect that makes these designs so special – but it also requires a bit more caution in everyday life.
Are velvet designs as durable as other press-on nails?
Not quite.
Velvet designs with a fine, velvety surface are visually very special, but also more delicate than smooth or classically sealed designs. It is precisely this soft, luxurious effect that defines their look – but at the same time, it also means that the surface can show signs of wear and tear a little more quickly in everyday life.
Normal hand washing is not a problem at all.
However, over time, the fine velvet structure can wear down somewhat, especially at the tips and edges. Unfortunately, this cannot be completely avoided with this type of surface.
With longer nails, this often happens more slowly than with shorter designs, because the way of gripping and the stress in everyday life differ.
Important to know:
This is also not a quality defect, but a normal characteristic of this special finish. Velvet designs are therefore more suitable for special looks and shorter wear times than for demanding everyday situations.
They are particularly well suited for:
- Dates
- Parties
- Events
- Special occasions
They are less ideal for:
- Housework
- Cleaning
- Vigorous rubbing
- Frequent gripping in everyday life
If you want to enjoy the effect for as long as possible, we recommend wearing velvet designs more as a special statement piece than as a heavily used everyday look.
What should I do if a press-on nail becomes loose or falls off?
No problem – in most cases, you can simply reattach it.
The important thing is to keep the detached nail safe. Before reattaching it, you should:
- carefully remove old adhesive residue from inside the nail with a manicure stick or a suitable tool,
- then briefly clean or disinfect the nail with alcohol,
- and then reattach it as described in our application instructions.
This way, you can usually continue using the nail without any complications.
— Sizes & Fit —
How do I find the right size press-ons?
Each set includes several sizes. Choose the nails that best cover your nail bed without touching your skin.
Check the size (too small = pressure, too large = overhang) and try a different one if necessary. Slight initial pressure may subside after 1–2 days.
The set includes two sizes of adhesive pads – which one is right for me?
Each set includes two variants of adhesive tabs:
- shorter tabs for smaller or shorter nails or nail beds
- longer tabs for larger or longer nails or nail beds
Our recommendation:
If both variants fit, choose the tab that covers your nail bed well.
If a tab is only minimally too long, you can either carefully trim the excess with small nail scissors or, after peeling off the protective film, gently fold it forward over the tab with your natural nail.
You should avoid tabs that are too short, as dirt and moisture can more easily get under the press-ons, which can reduce their durability.
Tip:
If both tabs fit well, you can also decide based on the desired wear time:
- For longer wear, we recommend the optimally fitting tab.
- For short wear, for example for a day or a weekend, the slightly smaller tab may also suffice, as the nails are often easier to remove.
Can I trim or file the press-on nails?
Our press-ons can generally be trimmed or filed, but we don't recommend it. Filing or cutting can easily scratch the surface or cause the beautiful, even shape to be lost. To ensure your press-ons retain their perfect fit and shine, it's best to wear them as they arrive.
Are NexaNails also suitable for wider thumbnails?
That depends on the measured width of your thumbnail.
If you measure your thumbnail correctly according to our measurement instructions and are within our current sizes, you can wear NexaNails without any problems.
Important:
Our current collection is suitable for thumbnails with a width of up to [16 mm]. We will gradually add larger sizes.
You should also note:
Even if a set formally fits, the visual effect can vary depending on the nail bed. People with a longer natural nail bed often find the same shape or length more harmonious or slightly shorter, while it can appear somewhat longer on a shorter nail bed. Therefore, not only the width is important, but also your personal perception of shape and length.
— Health & Safety —
Are press-on nails harmful to my natural nails?
No, quite the opposite. Applying them with our adhesive pads is particularly gentle and gentle on your natural nails. Since no aggressive liquid glue or remover is required, the nail surface remains intact. The pads can be removed without leaving any residue, allowing you to change your nails flexibly without stressing your natural nails.
Even if you're a big fan of gel nails, it's a good idea to give your natural nails a break every now and then to protect them. If you still want to maintain a perfect look during this time, our press-ons are the ideal solution: gentle on your nails and removable at any time.
Can I wear press-ons if I have very thin or sensitive nails?
Yes, press-ons are also suitable for thin or sensitive nails. Application with adhesive pads is particularly gentle, as neither aggressive liquid glue nor acetone remover is required. Just make sure to prepare your nails thoroughly and remove the press-ons carefully – this way, your natural nails remain protected.
